What is SEO?

Search engine optimization is a methodology of strategies, techniques and tactics used to increase the amount of visitors to a website by obtaining a high-ranking placement in the search results page of a search engine (SERP) — including Google, Bing, Yahoo and other search engines. – from

But allow me to side track here and explain what SEO isn’t.

It is not longer about ranking by key words. A site cannot be tagged with a bunch of key words (and have paid clicks – which is SEM) to rank on the first page. Google no longer works that way.

The first thing you have to understand is that Key Words don’t work. Let me also state that I in know way know all the itty bitty ways Google’s Algorithm Works As soon as everyone understands it, Google Changes it. Which I think is for the better. Here’s why.

Google is all about is users and delivering answers to the questions they ask or search for. They also rank, in my opinion, the following: A well built site (read lightweight, responsive and structured correctly), Sharing (social media), Content (if your content is not up to snuff, google will overlook you for someone better). and a whole bunch of other vitally important items that I am not going to go into here.

So what do we concentrate on here in regards to monthly SEO programs?

Keeping everything up to date

Ensuring your web-tools are working

Fixing structures on the site.

Providing guidance on improving content to be more SEO friendly

Tracking social media interactions (this is an option on top of basic). Reporting on ways to ensure it is seemless.

Watching long tail key phrases

Management for paid adword campaigns

Working to see if your back-links help/hurt  you

Looking at a set number of competitors to see what they are doing and providing reports on how you should/should not be doing the same.
